Social issues like labor rights, gender equity, and economic and food security are a growing priority in the seafood industry. The Framework for Social Responsibility in the Seafood Sector builds on existing standards and resources to answer help seafood businesses answer critical first questions, so they can assess and improve their performance on social issues.
Framework for Social Responsibility in the Seafood Sector (2019)
As the seafood industry increased its focus on social responsibility, the Collaboration developed the Framework for Social Responsibility in the Seafood Sector to help business leaders understand the range of social issues in seafood, and which standards or tools address them.
Our framework has now been incorporated into the Social Responsibility Assessment Tool (SRA). The SRA is a human rights due diligence tool used to assess risks of social issues, uncover critical information gaps, and identify areas in need of improvement. The SRA is designed to be flexible to accommodate a range of seafood production models, from artisanal and industrial fisheries to seafood processors and fish farms. It can be especially valuable when informing the development of a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) workplan. The SRA can even be used by brands and retailers when developing their seafood sourcing and supply chain engagement strategies. The Collaboration’s Framework for Social Responsibility is no longer being updated and an updated version that reflects that is available for download below.
